As recent leaks had claimed, Sega is gearing up to release another Sonic the Hedgehog game and it ’ll be called Sonic Frontiers. The name refers to the nature of the forthcoming title, which will be unlike any once investiture in the Sonic macrocosm. Put simply, it sure aesthetics like Sega is hoping to draw in Breath of the Wild suckers with its coming Sonic game.
Sonic Frontiers was introduced alongside a teaser caravan at The Game Awards 2021, giving suckers their first look at the coming investiture in the lengthy Sonic the Hedgehog videotape game series. The forthcoming titles will differ from the being games in one big way, still, by bringing the hedgehogs to their first open- world terrain.
Players will be free to explore a vast open world filled with a variety of geographies, including timbers, open fields, falls, comeuppance, and other regions. In addition to the teaser caravan, Sega has released a sprinkle of screenshots showing the kinds of surroundings players can anticipate.
Sonic will, Sega says, still have hisultra-fast handling capability and players will be assigned with battling adversaries spread throughout the open- world terrain (Starfall Islands). We see a cinematic interpretation of those kinds of battles in the launch caravan, but Sega has n’t yet participated any gameplay footage.
Though fresh details are n’t yet available — the Holiday 2022 release date away — it’s enough clear Sega is targeting suckers of being largely popular open- world games like Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Nintendo dredged in knockouts of millions of deals with its megahit Zelda title, with Breath of the Wild proving to be the most popular investiture in the game ballot (via Wikipedia).
An open- world terrain was one of the rumors that had been circulating since Sega teased a 2022 Sonic game before this time. The big question, however, is whether the company can manage to pull off commodity as excellent as Breath of the Wild. Some early commentary from players points out that while the idea of an open world is great, the factual terrain revealed by Sega seems out of place with the cartoon hedgehogs.
We ’ve only seen a many screenshots from this world, so it’s unclear how robust it may be and what kind of structures it may feature. It’s possible that Sega plans to bring the classic geographies from its side-scrolling titles to the forthcoming 3D world, but whether it ’ll pull off a style that complements — rather than contrasts — the animated characters is another matter.
Sonic’s ultramodern design history has formerly been filled with some questionable choices, videlicet the movie interpretation of the character that ever managed to reach the promotional stage despite looking like, well, this. Hopefully, Sega took notes amid that design debacle and will be redundant careful to give players the kind of world they want, not just cartoon hedgehogs in awkwardly realistic biomes.
